FAQs
What Distance courses are offered?
There will be a 10 Kilometer (6.2 mile), Half marathon (13.1 mile), and full marathon (26.2 mile) options to chose from.
What are the courses like? How hard are they?
All three courses start by winding through several miles of residential neighborhoods and downtown Middleton. This section of the course is comprised of rolling hills with a slightly challenging ascent up the south side of Parmenter hill. The 10K course continues through downtown Middleton and heads back to Greenway station to the finish line. The half and full marathon courses cross University avenue heading north before turning into Pheasant Branch Conservancy. Here, runners are treated to a tree canopied stretch that follows the creek through the nature conservancy. The terrain is mainly flat and the surface is primarily asphalt bike path before transitioning to unpaved bike path. Miles 11-15 cover rolling hills on backcountry roads with a challenging ascent around mile 14. The course winds its way back into the conservancy and heads west onto more asphalt bike path and remains flat and fast for several miles. Just after the 21st mile runners will leave the path and begin retracing their steps through downtown Middleton and the surrounding neighborhoods. Be on the lookout throughout the course for the rumored spirits and ghosts known to haunt these streets. The course is diverse, fun and fast with some challenging hills you can brag to your friends about afterwards.
Is there water and aid along the course?
There will be aid stations providing water and carbohydrate drink approximately every mile. Some of the later aid stations will provide energy gels, electrolyte pills and Vaseline.
Will there be medical support on the course? What should I do if I need medical help?
We will have ambulances and race doctors at the start finish as well as on the course. If you require medical help or need to pull yourself from the race do your best to get to an aid station. Aid stations will have the ability to contact the race’s medical staff to provide you help. If you are unable to make it to an aid station, notify a volunteer, spectator or other runner that you need help and any pertinent medical information.
Will there be Porta-Potties on the course?
Porta-potties will be positioned throughout the course and will be indicated on the course map. There will be a large concentration of porta-potties at the start/finish. Please refrain from public urination this is a family friendly event.
What is the weather like?
The average high temperature for October 30th is 52 degrees Fahrenheit which falls into the ideal temperature range recommended for distance running.
Will there be somewhere to leave my warm pre-race clothes?
We will have volunteers collecting and holding race pre-race clothes, however the parking is so close to the start line that many will elect to leave their extra clothes in their car.
Is the Marathon a Boston qualifier?
The official sanctioning is pending however, the course is exactly 26.2 miles long and will be officially certified this spring.
Can I give or sell my bib to someone else?
NO. This is strictly prohibited by USA Track and Field.
Can I wear a Halloween costume?
Please do. There will be awards given to the best costumes. Please remember that this is a family friendly event and to keep your costume choices appropriate.
Where should I park?
There is a 1500 stall parking ramp available for all participants and family members located directly next to the start/finish line. We encourage you to park here and allow patrons of Greenway station the use of the general mall parking.
Can I run with my dog or children in a stroller?
We love dogs and children but we ask that they cheer you on from the sides of the road. It is incredibly dangerous to them and other participants to be on the course. Additionally we ask that your family or friends do not follow you on a bicycle as this too is dangerous to them and other participants.
How will my time be tracked?
You will be given a timing chip on a comfortable neoprene band that is to be worn around your ankle. Timing mats that you cross at the start line will start your time and the same mats will stop your time when you finish. There will be several mats on the course to ensure everyone follows the correct course. Timing chips will be collected at the end of the race and you will be charged for a lost timing chip.
Will there be food after the race?
Several of the Greenway Station restaurants have graciously donated post-race treats for participating runners and are offering deals for racers and their families on post-race lunch and dinner. Capitol Brewery will have locally brewed beer for participants over 21 years of ages.
I won an award, how can I get it?
There will be an awards ceremony and Halloween party with live music at Capitol Brewery Beer Garden at the conclusion of the event. Awards will not be mailed however, they may be picked up before the awards ceremony for those unable to attend or picked up at Endurance House after October 30th.

About Middleton
Many Middletonians commute to Madison, but Middleton proper has a strong pool of jobs too, mainly in the pharmaceutical, tech and medical industries. After business hours, Middleton has more going on than you might expect for a town of 17,000. The beer garden at the Capital Brewery is host to corporate mixers, and there are good restaurants downtown.
But make no mistake: Family life is what Middleton is about. In the summer you'll see parents and kids plying the bike trails of the conservancy, splashing in the town's waterslide-equipped pool or sailing on Lake Mendota.
